People we meet out and about in the community are always asking how they can help. Breaking Free, located in St. Paul, helps hundreds of women escape sexual exploitation through a number of services they provide in the community.
As an organization, they are implementing measures recommended by the CDC for Interim Guidance for Homeless Shelters, and the Minnesota Department of Health Strategies to Slow the Spread of COVID-19. While schools are closing, clients with children have been dependent on the school's hot meals. Breaking Free is committed to providing hot meals several times a week in the weeks to come. They have also committed to the community that they will continue to do outreach and meet those who are the most vulnerable on the streets. They have not closed offices, drop-in shelter, emergency shelter or permanent supportive housing.
Breaking Free is currently serving 55 families through housing, Hearth Connection and Section 8, as well as clients through the Safe House and Drop-in Center.
